best way to get autos off a jersey?

I used Spray N Wash and scrubbed it lightly with a toothbrush. Washed it and then repeated. My autograph came off fine and you can't tell it was ever there. My jersey was white, I've never tried it on any other jerseys but that one.

I have an 86 Yankees home jersey with the same problem. The previous owner had it signed (in my presence) with the players full name (a common player). The autograph doesnt really look good, imho. Wonder if that method would work?
