As you can see on the link below, Milt Byron (user name "milt") looked at it and determined this not to be a gamer. If you need to know who Milt Byron is, he's a dealer based out of the Philadelphia area who used to acquire team sets from the Flyers back in the early 1980s. Needless to say, he knows a thing or two about the team.

i find this interesting:

milt byron - "This was another one from Heritage that I seen and sent back as not worn"

buffalo1188 - "How is it they can send a jersey to Milt and he states it is not game worn and then Lou Lampson issues an LOA"

as i understand it then, heritage sent it to byron first. byron gave it a thumbs down. heritage apparently didn't like or agree with milt so they sent it to lampson who, in turn, gave it a thumbs up. is that right?

i guess that's one way to secure auction house contracts and keep 'em rolling in in the future. no wonder lou's so popular. perhaps that's why, despite constant and egregious errors, his supporters refuse to drop him. dropping lou might mean a substantial drop in the number of items they can sell.

I believe that Milt thought it to be an authentic jersey just not showing wear . Heritage says there is a team repair in the neckline, so the question is the wear not the authenticity of the jersey as a game jersey.... Lou should not even be authenticating hockey jerseys in the first place, but that's another thread....

dave, thanks for the insight. does something about all of that strike you as a little odd though?

for one, it means that byron missed a team repair. from what i understand, he's pretty meticulous. i suppose anyone can make an error though.

the stranger thing, though, is that upon discovering the repair, (after byron's review), heritage didn't go back to byron with their finding. they just went ahead and paid for a whole new authentication rather than bringing the issue up with the guy who originally authenticated it. strange isn't it? especially considering that byron is held in far greater esteem among hockey collectors than lampson. if heritage found a repair that they felt byron missed, then why not just go back to him, show him the repair, and have him re-write his opinion? seems more logical than taking it to lampson.

I agree with you. Why not have Milt re-look at the jersey and show him what you belive to be a repair. His letter with a hockey jersey will bring tons more. If I was the consignor, I'd be asking that question. By going with just Lampson he could be losing out on thousands...

heritage is saying they made an error; the cert is not from lou but from milt. milt's maintaining he gave it a thumbs down.

wacky stuff. an auction house saying an authenticator positively authenticated something and the authenticator saying he didn't. i guess the proof would be in the loa?
