Arod circumventing Steiner?
in light of steiner's 'exclusive' yankees contract, how is this to be explained?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=120133910375
previously, steiner has shut down similar ebay auctions. it'll be interesting to see if they shut this one down. even more interesting should be elite's response.

Re: Arod circumventing Steiner?
at the end of 2004, steiner signed a multi-year deal with yankees for the rights to sell items that the yankees own. typically, these items include jerseys, bases, caps, balls, and lineup cards. players typically own their cleats, bats, and wristbands. the belief is that this deal is exclusive. that is, noone but steiner has the right to sell these items.
it's not that "arod is with steiner". it's that arod is with the yankees and the yankees are with steiner. unless he opts to purchase them outright, arod doesn't own his jerseys. the yankees do and as such, steiner's deal gives them first access. arod is free to take his bats, cleats, and wristbands anywhere he likes. however, his jerseys, pants, and caps would seem to be property of the yankees/steiner.
regardless of this deal, the reality is that unless steiner has strict controls in place, there's little to prevent a player from sneaking his jerseys out of the clubhouse and selling them someone else, like elite. i find it strange that steiner would pay a hefty sum for this deal and then watch as players take these items to other resellers. if you can't enforce and monitor these things, then i fail to see the point of the agreement.

Re: Arod circumventing Steiner?
Rudy, good post but ill add a little. Elite could have bought this jersey from Steiner and had AROD sign it then. You wont see any Steiner jersey's on their website signed like this. Secondly, The Yankees are in control of players bats. Arod has tricked the system a bit as he buys his own bats so he's in control of them. The Yankees allow this to happen but only guys like Cano, Cabrera, and Arod take advantage of this.
