Cardnials using different lettering on Jerseys?

Hi - I recently came across this image from 2003 and found it odd that Garrett Stephenson's name lettering is different from that of the other players in the picture. Is this pretty common?

There have been instances when the team used a condensed font to "squeeze in" longer names, like Schonedienst. It didn't seem to be consistent, though. For example, the same season (2002) Stephenson had the condensed lettering in the photo you posted, Isringhausen did not.
