      Hi George--

Roy White's H & B shipping records from 4/27/62 through 8/24/79 do not document any specific orders of either Hickory or Hickory Finished bats being shipped to him for his professional use. HOWEVER, during the 1977-79 label period, White did receive a total of 24 bats in August, 1977 that had a Hornsby Finish, which is often mistaken for a Hickory Finish --- for comparison, review Jim Caravello's excellent feature on H & B Finishes in the Expert's Corner section of GUU. Also refer to Page 127 of Bob Hill's CRACK OF THE BAT or page 227 of Vince Malta's new book, available online through GUU.

Anyway, the Hornsby Finish bats shipped to White as noted above were Model R143 that were 34 inches in length and weighed 32.5 and 33 ounces. Also, just to confuse the issue a little, White had one order of twelve K55 bats --- 34 inches / 32 ounces --- shipped in mid 1977 with a Galen Finish. Note that the Galen Finish produced in the 1970's appeared far less red in color than current Galen Finish, and possibly could be confused with a Hickory Finish. In general, many collectors do not expect a Hickory Finish to be as dark as it actually is, and confuse it with some of the "lighter dark finishes."

Good Luck--- let me know if your bat matches up with either the R143 or K55 models noted above.

George - Mike is dead on with his information. It should also be noted that during this period in the late 70's, White used quite a few Adirondack bats, in addition to Louisville Sluggers. White was a frequent user of Hickory / Brown finished Adirondack bats during this time period. I have owned several Hickory / Brown finished Adirondack White bats from this period with white lettering and stamping. Hope this helps. Good luck! Jim

          Hi Guys,

While we're at it, could I ask if Roy White ordered any C234 models from 73-75? Thanks!

Hi Greg - during the 1973 - 1975 Louisville Slugger labeling period, Roy White had one order of C234 model bats on July 29, 1975. That order was for 12 - Natural Finished 33" and 32 ounce bats. Let me know how else I can help. Thanks, Jim

                Hi Jim,

Thanks so much for the help on the Roy White (and sorry for the delayed response.
Could I also inquire about a Ted Simmons rookie era bat from the 69-72 period -- any orders from Ted for M110 models?
                Thanks!

Hi Greg - sorry for the delay in getting back to you on Simmons. During the 1969 - 1972 labeling period, Simmons had five ( 5 ) M110 orders. Bats were 34" pr 34.5" and weighed between 31 an 33 ounces. Let me know how else I can help. jim
