    My two newest bats.AWESOME!

Another week another couple bats. Here they are:

1988 Gary Sheffield Worth rookie bat

    Great all around use!

    2007(5/28/07) Johnny Damon BWP

The Damon bat has the tackiest pine tar i have ever felt and outstanding use and a handle crack.Damon gave this to the gentleman i bought it from after the game against the Blue Jays on May 28th.I'm obviously still looking for pics of this game so if anyone can help that would be great

And the ink transfers on the Damon bat are definitely blue although they appear greenish in the pictures.

    Jon,
Great looking Sheffield bat, I'm a big Sheff fan and have lucked out and grabbed two of his rookie bats, one Worth and one Cooper. Both of mine have his number "1" written on the knob. According to baseball almanac it appears as though he wore #1 in '88 & '89 and switched to #11 during the '89 season. Does anybody know if this is possible or if this happened? I posted a pic of my Sheff bats under the Worth bats post.

This is correct.I just looked it up.He switched to 11 in 1989.But he only played in 24 games in 1988.So does this mean that if i have an 89 bat it's still his rookie bat as he played many more games in 89 and would have been eligible for the ROY?

    Jon,
I would still consider your bat a rookie bat, I don't know how I was able to locate two of his gamers w/ #1 on the knob considering how few games he played in '88. Both of my bats have the majority of use on the right side of the barrel because he was a label down hitter back then; as does your bat, great pick up!

I didn't change Sheffield to 11 until 1990. Both Greg Vaughn and Lavel Freeman had it in 1989 and Charlie O'Brien in 1988. There is a reference book listing every number issued to every player that's perfect for this sort of thing: "Now Batting, Number..." by Jack Looney. Hope this helps.

Do you know why 1988 is written on the knob? Could he have used this in the minors? Did he wear 11 in the minors?
