To clarify my previous post, the NFL Encyclopedia and the 1989 NFL Record & Fact Book (an official NFL publication) confirm that Edmund Nelson played in 12 games in 1988 for the New England Patriots. To confirm his number, I would strongly recommend finding a couple of programs from the 1988 season to verify. Keep in mind that he could have swapped numbers (for example, wore a number in preseason and switched to another for the regular season) as this happens on occasion.
