Mike Coolbaugh Killed by line drive
Just saw this on the Sportscenter crawl this morning and found this online.

The crawl caught my attention when I saw the name Mike Coolbaugh go by because I have his Brewers gamer , then I saw the news that he died after being hit in the head by a line drive while coaching first base. It's awful. Very sad.

Re: Mike Coolbaugh Killed by line drive
I remember Coolbaugh well. He played for the Brewers in '01 and I had a 20-game package that year.
The Brewers' PA announcer announced his at-bats with great gusto...almost reminding you of the Zink announcing Dr. J at the Spectrum in the 80's.

Re: Mike Coolbaugh Killed by line drive
someone is already trying to cash in . A bat just listed.
Here's link and the description:
You are bidding on a broken bat used my the recently deceased Mike Coolbaugh broken during a Cardinals game during his rookie year. Bat has been kept in case, and in a smoke free environment and only taken out for pictures. Coolbaugh's Memorabilia is selling out quick so bid consciously!

Re: Mike Coolbaugh Killed by line drive
I really don't like the practice of collectors selling memorabilia from players because they've passed away. It's a bit morbid.
I would consider giving the jersey to the family if they were interested in having one of his jerseys.

Re: Mike Coolbaugh Killed by line drive
very, very tragic...
frankly, i'm surprised that base coaches aren't required to wear batting helmets during games, especially given how often they concentrate on the runners rather than the batter...
