Thread: Phil Rizzutto

    Phil Rizzutto

I just spent the last 30 minutes watching clips of Phil Rizzutto.

I'm not sure where my love of baseball came from, but my understanding of the game was from the Scooter. Not from his excellent play by play, but because in between all of the birthday announcements and canollis and pasta discussions, you really had to pay attention to the game to know what was going on! As a kid growing up in NY as a Yankee fan, no one called a game quite like Rizzutto.

Goodbye Scooter, and thanks for the memories.

I couldn't agree with you more. Watching televised Yankee games was never the same, after the Scooter retired. He never got the credit he deserved as a broadcaster, but as far as I'm concerned he was a legend in the booth, as well as on the diamond. He will be missed.
