Dan:
I think you're looking at a hat from "Rolla", Missouri (pro nounced "rawl uh"). Missouri School of Mines became the University of Missouri at Rolla and is now something else (Science and Technology) or something like that. Hope that wasn't redundant.

No history other than the history of the school. thanks Ryan. Hoping someone w/ interest in Missouri college baseball might find this post, and let us know.
not sure its baseball, perhaps just a school cap. Did some research on the
name of the shop it came from HELLER Sr. and indeed they were near Campus and suppliers of goods to students from late 1800s for many years. Father then son ran the store. Wrote to U MO and asked their historian if they could tell me about baseball but inconclusive info. They would be interested in it, being baseball, or not. They do not have a MSM cap in their collection. They sent photos of students wearing caps, but not like this one with this logo on it.
thats what we know about this cap.

It's now known as Missouri University of Science and Technology. It's part of the University of Missouri System, just as UCLA is part of University of California System.

The college was founded in 1870 as the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy and chanced its name in 1964. Yours is for the school's original name (1879-1964). You just have to narrow down the style to judge the age. There's no debate its a genuine cap for the college. Get a hold of Dave Bushing and ask for his opinion on the style and age.

I don't claim to be a hat expert, but it looks to me to be an early 1900s baseball cap, circa 1900s-20s. Cobb and Joe Jackson worse similar styles during their playing days. To me, there's little question its a baseball cap, as opposed to a school beanie or something like that.

Shirkr is right about the school, They do have a baseball team, a friend played there back in the mid 1980's. I'm guessing it is a ball cap from the school team.

This is just an observation, but the logo appears to be a fairly complex example of machine embroidery.
That would suggest early 20th Century, as opposed to the more basic embroidery examples (in most cases) seen on mid to late 19th Century uniforms.
