R.C. Owens, a longtime front office employee of the San Francisco 49ers and an NFL WR for 8 seasons, died Sunday at age 78.

Nicknamed "Alley Oop" due to his excellent leaping ability, Owens was drafted in the 14th round in the 1956 NFL Draft by the 49ers. He began play in 1957, catching passes for the Niners through 1961. After that, he spent 1962-63 with the Baltimore Colts, and finished up in 1964 with the New York Giants.
