    NASL-North American Soccer League collectors?

I'm hoping that the resident NASL guru, Mike Grueber, will respond to this thread. I just acquired this 1978 Caribous of Colorado jersey. I used this webpage http://nasljerseys.com/Jerseys/Jerse...L_Caribous.htm for research. My jersey is made by Medalist Sand Knit, with standard late 70s rectangle tagging in collar. The Caribous jersey pictured in the above website, has the same tagging, sized as MEDIUM. My jersey is sized SMALL. It does measure to a size 40. Is this appropriate for a Caribou gamer? My shirt has never had a NOB, front logo patch, or sleeve numbers. The above website lists this as a variation, and shows game photos to prove.
Is size SMALL (measures to size 40, unstretched) possible for a gamer? Is is possible that replicas were sold in stores? I have to laugh, when thinking that is possible. I can't imagine this hanging on the rack of some sporting goods store. There is light use. I don't know what use should be expected from a one-season used soccer jersey. From the game photos, It appears to be a legit NASL gamer, complete with faux-leather, ultra-suede fringe to complete that Daniel Boone, Davey Crockett, Oregon Trail-look. This is a jersey I will NEVER wear. Ever. I ask that any collectors with NASL jerseys...please post pictures.
    THANKS!

There was no baseball in DC growing up in the 70s, so the Diplomats of the NASL were the big thing. I have three jerseys-a blue from 1975, a home red from 1978 and a white road from 1979. I bought the Roy Willner (blue) and the other Willner on the website Warren linked from him directly. I even got his old equipment bag. I will pay top dollar for any Dips jersey from 1976-1980.

Here are a few NASL jerseys I have been able to acquire. I grew up a big Chicago Sting fan. Went to a lot of games at Wrigley and Commisky park. Also followed them when they played indoors at the old Chicago Stadium and Rosemont Horizon. The Dips jersey is from goalkeeper Jimmy Brown (1981 when the Detroit Express moved to Washington - not for sale), The Rochester Lancers jersey is Pat Ercoli from 1978 and the Sting jersey is Dale Russell from the 83-84 indoor season. I do have a Seattle Sounders warm up made by SandKnit and it is a size small. Most NASL jerseys ran very small. I do have a few in size small.

This Portland Timers 1979 Bruce Gant gamer is a size 38/40. I purchased this while living in Portland from a Civic Stadium employee back in 1981.

    Gant was a defender, 6-0", 155 pounds.

Just to let you know, #10 belonged to Louie Nanchoff. He went on to have a pretty decent career in the MISL. You'll notice on all the shirt pix that have been posted that the jeresys had names on them. Yours should too - it may have had a name plate, but it definitely needs to show something on the back. Sleeve numbers were also the norm, but I have a couple shirts without them. I doubt that replicas were made with the suede fringe and sewn on numbers. I believe admiral had the license for replicas at that time. It was later Shez. The replicas were pretty cheaply made. Your shirt may have been a match-ready shirt.

Here are a few more shirts I have from the NASL. Gemeri 1980 Ft Lauderdale Strikers, 1981 Ingo Peter + w/up, 81-82 Cosmos - Moyers indoor.

Always looking to add NASL shirts. Let me know if you have any to sell.

I always like this rowdies design, which lasted the entirety of the franchise.

Thanks for posting the photos...glad to see NIKE was getting exposure in the 70s.

thanks for the info...however I found these photos with NO sleeve numbers and NO name on back...there must have been some variations. Do you know Nanchoff's height and weight?

I agree that the quality of my shirt is too good to be a retail item.

Here are 2 photos from the web site for the US Soccer Hall of Fame. One of the jerseys is the same as BTPHs. There appear to be no numerals on the arms

Thanks for taking the time to locate and post the HOF photos. This helps to legitimize my shirt! US Soccer Hall of Fame? Who knew?
