Should I get an MLB authenticated game used bat signed?

I've searched all over this site and couldn't find an answer so I thought I would ask. I have a Josh Hamilton MLB authenticated game used bat and I'm going to the game tonight and should I try to get it signed?

to each their own on this issue. Some guys like them and other do not. It just depends on what you want. Me personally i collect g/u stuff in order to get it signed. I like collecting auto's but i figured you only need so many signed balls and pictures. It added a whole new element to my colection.

I am not sure about the Rangers, but you can't bring a bat into the stadium in Atlanta, so unless you are planning on trying to get the signature at the players parking lot I would imagine it would be a waste of time to bring the bat along. I would recommend waiting until he has a signing somewhere.

I am interpreting that your concern is autographing an MLB Authenticated bat... rather than autographing game used bats in general.

I would not worry about the MLB Authentication in making the decision. The bat is still authenticated regardless of the signature being added later.

I would recommend though if you ever sell the bat that you consider explaining the MLB Authentication does not cover the autograph. In the interest of full and fair disclosure to potential buyers.

Kind of opposite but illustrates the point, I have seen people sell bats as PSA authenticated, when PSA only verified the autograph not the game use. Its just bad practice to omit those key facts which causes buyers to be misled.

Good point. Just remember that MLB Authentication has two types of sessions, one for signing and one for game used so any one session cannot cover both the item and the autograph. Signing sessions are usually private sessions and game used sessions are during or right after the game.

Maybe I am not following what you are saying. I have seen some duals... that were well apart timing wise, like 8.5 months... ie they authenticated game use, then added the autograph to the same holo # at a later date:

Hologram number BB756306 was located in the MLB Authentication Database under GAME-USED BROKEN BAT.
    Session Product Description:

    Session Name: KC AT CWS
    Session Date: July 19, 2008
    Autographer:
    Authenticator: AUTHENTICATORS, INC.
Additional Information: BUTLER ROYALS 1 PIECE 1ST INNING

Session Name: ROYALS SPRING TRAINING SIGNING
    Session Date: March 28, 2009
    Autographer: BILLY BUTLER
    Authenticator: AUTHENTICATORS, INC.

    Interesting.

It seems that the bat piece was authenticated in 2008 and then latter on presented at a signing and instead of giving another hologram, they added information to the database for the same hologram.

So I guess there is certain protocal that occurs when a item is presented for more than one session. Thanks for bringing this up.

I had a John Smoltz jersey that was done the same way with the autograph added to the current hologram later, and I currently have a Jackie Robinson Day Mike Gonzalez jersey that was done the same way.
