Relationship between Helmet Size and Cap Size

Dear members,
What are your thoughts and experiences regarding a player's hat size
and helmet size. Are they usually the same? Slightly smaller/bigger?
I know there are simple things like different hairstyle, (Manny, Big Papi)
steroids, that can affect cap/helmet size but being that two different
companies manufacturer them, New Era/ABC, I was wondering if there was
a consistent difference or is it all over the place?

Also does anyone have any experience with a switch-hitter using
slightly different helmet sizes?

I have a righty and lefty helmet that is 7 1/2 and 7/ 5/8, which is a
very slight difference, from a player that is known to wear a 7 3/4 cap.
Will a player wear a snugger helmet for protection as opposed to
a cap that can shrink from sweat?

I myself, when I go to the store have to choose between a 7 1/4 and
7 3/8 depending on my haircut or sometimes they just fit different from
time to time and they usually get too tight after a few months from
sweat drying up. I also tend to buy slightly larger factoring in that
it will shrink and as I mentioned, even with the same haircut, a 7 1/4
may feel larger than a 7 3/8 even if its the same exact cap.

Helmets and caps are usually the hardest items to obtain and also
hard to authenticate so any help would be appreciated.

FWIW, I can tell you that Cal Ripken Jr.'s hat and batting helmet size were the same.

Barry Larkin seemed to wear the same size helmet as his hat size.
