Thumbs up I hope you didn't bid on this Ripken...

...in Mile High's auction closing Thursday. The tag is not consistent with anything Russell used anywhere in 1996. I feel sorry for the bidder who ends up with this.

    Dave,

Is it the 48-96 part that has you concerned? If so, I haven't seen that either.

That, the size of the tag, and the numeric font on the tag. The tag should have a 4-digit year (1996) and should be larger.

Was the four-digit year something that was particular to Orioles tagging? I'm curious because this site's Primer on Russell Tagging doesn't show year tagging for 1996 jerseys. Also, what's wrong with the font on the tag? What should it look like? Thanks.

The Ripken jersey sold for $4,075.75:

    http://www.milehighcardco.com/LotDet...ternate-Jersey

Not only is the tag incorrect, the Orioles never wore this style of jersey. Prior to the season, the orange piping on the front of all the Baltimore alternate jerseys was removed by the team. A quick 2 minute search of Getty Images shows numerous pictures of these alternate jerseys without the piping (including a few Ripken images from '96).

No returns on this jersey by the way - the auction rules state that because of the extensive research done by several experts employed by Mile High and the accompanying Grey Flannel LOA, all sales are final.

LMAO... ahhh, gotta love it.. Glad their new show will "enlighten" collectors to the "most knowledgable game worn jersey expert in the world". Thanks!

My main PC is down, so I'm at an alternate PC location. As a result, I can't post a picture of the proper tag at thi time. Several teams used the 4-digit year tag besides Baltimore in 1996. Among them: Red Sox, Dodgers, Indians and Mariners.
