It's possible. I purchased it from the On Deck Circle in 2002. The LOA from the team says it was worn by John Wilson and Sammy Rodriguez, with no mention of Smith. There was a story that went along with it but I have forgotten.

If you purchased the jersey in 2002 and Joe Smith only played with the B-Mets in 2006, this couldn't have been worn by him. I think that if the jersey had remained with the organization for a few more years (if you purchased it in 2006 or later), this would have been plausible.
