Minnie Minoso game used Louisville Slugger
On a Louisville Slugger 125 Minnie Minoso game used bat (1949-1980), what does the imprinted letters W171 mean on the knob? Is it a game used bat with these letters? Thanks..Matt

Could be, those numbers are a good start. Any way to post pics of the barrel markings, center markings, and the knob? Also if you can get a length and weight.

Re: Minnie Minoso game used Louisville Slugger
The combination of letter and numbers represents a specific model of bat manufactured by Hillerich & Bradsby / Louisville Slugger. In this case, model W171 can be found documented in Minnie Minoso's personal order records as a model that was ordered and shipped to him for his personal professional use in 1958 in lengths of 34 inches (3 bats) and 33.5 inches (16 bats.) You can compare the labeling on your bat with the H & B labeling for that period using the "Identifying Gamers" link at Jeff Scott's informative website www.birdbats.com
