Is there a way on at bat to figure out how fast a given pitch was?

I'd have to say no. Too many variables -- density/quality of the wood, speed of the swing, directness of the contact, spot on the ball where it was hit, etc. Makes it next to impossible to say, "That's an extremely deep and defined seam impression -- the pitch must have come in at 100 mph."

I get that, I was more just wondering if MLB logged the data somewhere I was unaware of.

I find that http://www.baseball-reference.com has lots of good information never looked for ball speed though. Best way I have found is to watch replays via MLB.tv or the atbat app.

Yes there is. I'm on the road- tomorrow I'll confirm. I think MLB.com game day will tell you mph of each pitch. I know it's either them or baseball reference. But yes you can. I'll get back to you

OK here it is:
(1) Go to MLB.com
(2) top left hit "SCORES"
(3) PICK A GAME and hit "GAMEDAY"
(4) On your game hit "PLAY-BY-PLAY"
(5) On the at bat your interested in (and here's the trick) DOUBLE CLICK.
(6) A box will drop down and show every pitch with its MPH.

You don't have to have MLB.TV (to get MPH) unless you want to see that pitch.
