Hello,
I ran across this Ed Brinkman bat from the 1960's and it has a 7 burnt into the barrel between the Trademark and the name. Is this a factory mark? If so what does it represent? The model is C12 and it is 34 1/2 inches long. Thanks for any help. Mike |

It is an internal Detroit Tigers inventory number not uncommon to Tigers bats of the period.Think of them as similar to "Yosh marks" found on Cubs bats. See photo on this thread for another example:
http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=44441&highlight=tigers+bat+number Check the labeling which appears to be from 1969-1972, as the bat is most certainly from Brinkman's time with the Tigers in either 1971 or 1972. This makes sense to me now. The Labeling does match the 69-72 period.
Thanks very much for the help. Mike |
