Autographs from players through the mail?

I was in Cooperstown last weekend for the Induction. At one of the events, I overheard a conversation between two fans/collectors who were sharing stories of their successes getting autographs from players (Hall of Famers, more specifically) through the mail.

Apparently, there is a list of players'/Hall of Famers' addresses. I remember someone giving me such a list years ago, but I had heard that the information was outdated, so I never paid much attention to it.

I have two questions:

1) Does anyone have a current list? And, if so, have you found the addresses to be valid/correct?

2) For those of you who have actually done this, have you had any luck? Any interesting stories (of success or failure) that you can share?

I have been collecting autographs through the mail off and on for many years now. I used to be really big into it when I was younger and sent off about 20 requests a month. I still send off a couple autograph requests every now and then when I get an itch. I do have an address list, but I purchased it in 2004, so the addresses are current up to then. I have found that all the home addresses that I have tried since then are still valid and work. The best list, in my opinion, is the Meiselman list. He comes out with a new and updated list every year and you can find just about anyone you want in his lists. You can find it here:

There are tons of Through the Mail web sites that have really helped me as well. These websites list the successes and failures of many collectors and they help give you an idea of who is signing and who isn't. One of these great sites is www.sportscollectors.net (http://www.sportscollectors.net) . This is like our forum except for through the mail autographs.

I have had tons of great success through the mail including players such as : Johnny Damon, Calos Delgado, Tom Glavine, Mike Hampton, Chipper Jones, Barry Larkin, Greg Maddux, Mike Mussina, Troy Percival, John Smoltz, Omar Vizquel. Sparky Anderson, Bobby Doerr, Bob Feller, Fergie Jenkins, Al Kaline, Harmon Killebrew, George Kell, Tommy Lasorda, Johnny Pesky, Kirby Puckett, and Tony Gwynn just to name a few.

I have Carlton's addy listed as:

I have also heard that he charges $18 to sign. I do not have an address for Rickey Henderson, but I have heard that he doesn't sign fan mail. Hope this helps!
