Mickey Vernon autograph question?

Hi,
A question for you guys, SORT of autograph related, though its actually about a burned in signature in a bat.
I like to collect game used items where the players have added some sort of religious personal touch to them. I find them inspiring.
I noticed on a Mickey Vernon bat that Mears has for sale, his burned in signature has a slash across the 'Y' and that is how his autograph is. Does anyone happen to know if he is making a cross symbol there or is it just simply adding a little flair to his autograph??
I have read what I can about him and he appears to have been a great man, but I haven't come across any mention of his faith.
Does anyone know if that slash is intended to make a cross?
Just asking for my collection, not trying to judge Vernon or anyone else. To each his own.

Don't know, but you may want to write to him. He answers his fan mail, and he's known as one of the nicest guys ever to put on a uniform.
