Default Mickey Mantle Autographed Baseball - Shill Bidding on eBay

I often look at eBay to check out bids and investigate good price ranges to bid on items without overpaying for them. However, there is one interesting auction for a Mickey Mantle Autographed Baseball.

Go to eBay and check this current auction which is item number #130367139266.

The seller's name is 'tmacman50' (1985).

This seller posted the same item on this reserved auction which was #
130365539876. However, this auction ended because the 'reserve price was not met'. The highest bidder for this reserved auction was "k*****k (685)". Amazingly, he bidded on that reserved auction too many times.

Now go back to the current auction and you'll find out that "k*****k (685)" has done the same thing once again shooting up the bid.

The reason why I think 'tmacman50' is involved in shill bidding is because I kept an eye on both auctions. In his current auction he listed the price at $0.99 (with no reserve). Then he 'changed' the price to $99.00 and that's when I noticed "k*****k (685) bidded that high.

Can anyone vouch for this? Thoughts?

fagitaboutit...it looks like a stone cold forgery to me anyway. Take it off your watch list. Not to mention, it is spotted like a raccoon. What a mess. Worth about $100 if it was real.

If it looks like a fake to me, it usually is. It is amazing that it was bid to nearly 3 beans for a mess like that. Maybe someone else would like to chime in on the authenticity? Not sure if he's Curt "Shilling" or not? It is possible it could justbe a complete and utter moron.

Heres the link:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...fvi%3D1&_rdc=1

The signature looks ok to me, but I'm no expert. B&J used to be pretty reputable I believe.

Probably shill bidding though.

While BJ Collectibles "might" be on the up & up, I can tell you "THAT" signature is not the Mantle signature you want. The certs can be copied very easily. It is also a well known fact that the now reformed Shelly Jaffe of "Operation Bullpen" fame", has stated that many forgeries were sold to BJ's. For whatever that's worth. I really don't care if it's real, which I do not believe it is, I wouldn't pay .50 for that one.

If you suspect shill bidding, and now suspect it could be a fake and it is browner that a dirt cowboy....please just pass on it.

Wow, very informative. Glad to hear some thoughts about this topic. I didn't know this seller was also the owner of BJ Collectibles? Any thoughts?

Otherwise, for some of you who don't know:

The current auction link is here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

The reserved auction link (which has ended) is here:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Just click on 'bids' and you'll find that maybe there is 'shill bidding' involved. However, I'm just speculating here.

personally, if it was me, I'd be looking for a single signed ball from the Bobby Brown era that looks similar to this one.

I got it in person & then like a dope paid $75.00 (Now 100 I think?) to have it authetnicted. At least I didn't have them put the stupid sticker on the ball, they put it on their letter. Good luck.

Thanks for your input. This information has been helpful. I think I found one online and it looks definitely real but doesn't have a COA.

Going to give it a shot though. Appreciate it!

I'm looking at the cert and I swear it looks like they are saying it was signed 7/8/96 (unless they were 'authenticating' the auto on that date) as Mantle passed 8/13/95.

Just my .02

Yes, I also noticed the date on that certification was in 1996. So I was more than happy to send an email to that guy and asking if the baseball was real or fake.

He got a little angry and told me that I should look at the number of bids on it before accusing him.

It's hard to tell and I hate to speculate but I'm getting an unusual feeling he's a greedy bastard.

Thoughts anyone?

Not an authentic Mantle autograph.

B&J did some business with the Marinos.
