does it really make any difference if the jersey is a legit game issued or custom star made from a blank, both were never worn by the player anyway?

Yes it does. A GI jersey is made specifically for the player. For collectors who cannot afford a GU jersey of a player it is the next best thing. Sometimes it is hard to find a particular player's GU jersey so it is a collector's only alternative.

Mbenga of course it makes a difference.

First of all one Jersey was specifically made for the intent of a specific player to wear it.

A Blank Jersey is just an average size / cut jersey that down the road is needed by the team in case any Joe Schmoe joins / gets called up.

Second of all the Jersey titles / description is misleading because to the buyer he is thinking he is buying the Jersey that was pre made by the manufacturer and intended for Jeter / Wright / Rodriguez to wear. Not some Jersey you made up in your own basement.

if these are in fact blanks turned star players, I'm curious to know where these jerseys were customized and if it was in the same stitching establishment that provides services for actual Yankees game jersey numerals.

All Steiner stuff from the Yankee partnership comes with the Steiner-Yankees LOA, even if it is just game issued. Either this guy has the misfortune of losing alot of LOAs or he is up to something. Knowing what goes on on Ebay I am willing to bet it is the later.

Well, since Steiner keeps NO record of their hologram #'s, it's a shame people can do this and no one will ever know if the #'s are legit or not. Buy a scrub GI and switch the holograms to a star player.. Bingo! Instant $$$

there's a thread over at the game used section about having Steiner reissuing LOAs. if someone is taking blanks and customizing them into star players and the buyer resubmits them to Steiner for a LOA, would they pass?

The ones that keep coming up on ebay with holograms only and no LOAs are highly suspicious to me. One seller has continued to add GI jerseys and none of them have the LOAs - all have been star players as well.

off topic but does anyone who owns a Yankees game jersey ever been able to look up their numbered holograms on Steiner's site? I agree with slam and the star players without LOAs seem to be coming from the same seller.
