That's a wire photo from May of 1973. You can buy it on ebay if you like...

Allen won the MVP in 1972, but he probably received the actual award in 1973.

That's the MVP trophy. Didn't he win in '72?

Warren, I think you are on to something there. The pants tagging on Sox jerseys from that era was a long strip tag that started with the last name and continued with the rest of the information. If someone were to take the pants tags and cut them to fit for a NIC, the new NIC would be shorter on the right side.

I've attached a couple photos from Allen NIC from 1972 and 1974. Compare these to the ebay jersey NIC and you'll see the ebay jersey NIC is shorter on the right side. That has to be a red flag.

Is anyone on the forum going to bid on this jersey? If they are, I won't bid. OR,

If the bids don't go too high, I'll throw a bid in because I believe it is a legitimate White Sox jersey and it would display well. As for it being worn by Allen, well that's certainly a moot point.

This looks like a legit '72 jersey that a collector had made to look like an Allen jersey.

What's your thoughts on the number of pinstipe across the front? I know Dave Grob has done some research on that theory before.
What about the collar? The jersey looks to zip all the way up leaving a "U" shape collar but the '72 jersey example that both-teams-played-hard showed has an almost "V" shape to it like the zipper doesn't go all the way to the top.
    Any idea?
    Thanks

I think it would be difficult to get a good photomatch on a jersey that has had the numbers changed. The logo on the front also looks restored, but I couldn't prove that without seeing it up close. I would bet the stitching in the collar is good, even though it appears to be coming loose.

If the bid stays low on the Allen jersey I might make a run at it. The one problem is I'd always be bothered by the fact the numbers have been changed. I REALLY want one that's original like the one member ossteve has from this post.

I agree that its difficult photomatching the numbers because it might of been restored but the red stripes dont match. Just count the stripes from his left top shoulder and you can easily see that it doesn't match. As much as I would love the jersey I'm going to pass for now.
