Adding to the tagging problems you cited, the front numbers are also the wrong font.

I contacted the seller with our concerns -- he is a long time collector within the hobby and a good guy in my opinion. He states that he purchased the jersey in 1985 from Murf Denny and stands by it.

Knowing that Murf's source of equipment back then was commonly the teams themselves, how can this one be easily explained???

Probably one of the numerous consignments Murf has taken over the years.

Also, I've seen many of the seller's items on eBay over time...I agree that he is a good fellow...this is just one of those things.

On eBay currently, this 1977 Mariners home purported to have been worn by manager Darrell Johnson is very problematic.

The year tag in the tail is an incorrect embroidery font, plus the collar Wilson tag is of the 1979-86 variety.
