Phil316 is correct. The tag should be in the collar, with two numeric identifiers. The year tag in the tail look as phony as one of the President's promises about the Affordable Health Care Act. I'd run, not walk, away on this one.

Here is a great look into the length Dave goes to evaluate a 1974 Hank jersey.

I think credit should be given to the person who did the research. The evaluation in question was performed by MEARS' Dave Grob not Dave Bushing.

Thanks Phil! Your contributions to this forum are life saving.
It is so frustrating to see fantastic game used items in these auctions, get excited about them, only to have that balloon popped when the item turns out not to be the real thing.

I have not seen an "X" on a jersey like that before that has meant "extra". That does not make sense. It also doesn't make sense that it is missing the double swatch year and jersey size like 74 44 for example. Especially for a guy like Hank. This is just my opinion.

That's interesting. Mine could be a Wilson and has a few letters attached with the X. I will post a picture. Did Wilson also do that?

Does that mean the Aaron is a reject?

Grey Flannel Aaron jersey and the black "X"

The black "x" has haunted me on many jerseys. I have heard they are rejects and were never worn by players. I have a 2000 Maddux jersey with the "X" even though the Braves sold it to me as game worn. The Hank Aaron also has the "x" which Grey Flannel says stands for "extra".
Extra what? I am hoping someone in this forum can clear up the meaning of the black "X".
