I do not have reliable answers to those questions, but was wondering that myself. I used the pen in November, and am wondering if I should use a fresh one the next time I am getting a jersey signed.

Does the silver paint pen last indefinitely? Do you need the right light or angle to see the inscription at its best? I noticed it shows best if reflecting light which itsnt needed with sharpie.

I LOVE a silver paint pen on an authentic leather football.
I personally go with a medium point for a nice signature. The fine points don't work as well. Also, a good silver paint pen will have a metallic flake effect in the signature.

I have used 2 brands and both are good.
Zig Painty (used by the NFL & PSA for NFL Auctions)
&
Elmer's Painters

I prefer the Zig to the Elmer's, but the Zig can be harder to find.

As far as paint pen lasting indefinitely, Yes and No.
I have removed silver paint pen from a football using paint thinner and a Q-Tip. It took a lot of work, and multiple applications of the thinner.
But, the paint pen should last as long or longer than the Sharpie under normal circumstances.
