Lou Brock (HOF) Autographed Game Used 1972 All Star Bat

You are bidding on an authentic Lou Brock game used professional model baseball bat manufactured by the Hillerich & Bradsby Company. It is a signature model with Brock's name stamped in script on the barrel as he had an endorsement contract with the company at the time of manufacture. This bat has what is commonly referred to as 1969-1972 labeling. Brock's personal H & B factory records confirm this bat as one of two bats sent to him upon his selection to the 1972 National League All Star team.
Elected to the Hall of Fame in 1985, and recognized as one of the most gifted base runners in baseball, Lou Brock helped to revolutionize the art and science of this element of the game as he totaled 938 stolen bases during his 19-year career. A six-time All-Star selection, Brock also accumulated more than 3,000 hits to help lead the St. Louis Cardinals to three National League pennants and two World Series championships. Although his stolen base records have been eclipsed, the National League honors each year's stolen base leader with the Lou Brock Award.
The Model Number R143 is stamped into the knob of this bat. The bat measures 35 inches in length and weighs approximately 34.75 ounces. This bat is uncracked. A review of Lou Brock's personal Hillerich & Bradsby factory shipping records documents an order of two model R143 bats that match the dimensions of this bat and were noted as "All Star."
Interestingly, in 1972, All Star bats were documented in factory records as having been shipped to each All Star player on 8/4/72. The game itself, however, was played on 7/25/72. It is not known whether the shipment dates were recorded approximately two weeks after actual shipment, or whether some production problem caused delayed shipment of All Star bats to every player selected to participate in the game.
This bat has been prepared for game use and exhibits light evidence of use, consistent with the limited use generally found on special event bats. Brock's uniform number 20 is evident on the knob of this bat, written in faded vintage marker and consistent with that found on other documented Lou Brock game used bats throughout his career. This bat contains rack marks, ball marks, and hit marks.
Lou Brock has autographed this bat on the sweet spot with a "perfect 10" black Sharpie signature. This is your opportunity to obtain a unique bat made for Hall of Fame outfielder Lou Brock upon his selection to the 1972 National League All Star team, and subsequently used by him during All Star activities (he did not play in the actual game) or at some later date.
This item comes from the personal collection of Jim Caravello, and includes a Letter of Authenticity from BATS (Mike Specht).View Lot Detail page
