    Rick Reuschel / Matt Williams 1991 H & B Game Used Bat

Rick Reuschel was a three-time All Star and two-time Gold Glove winner. Reuschel won the Hutch Award in 1985, and was also a winner of The Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year Award. In a 19-year career, he had a record of 214-191 in 557 games (529 starts). Reuschel had 102 career complete games and 26 of those were shutouts. He allowed 1330 earned run and struck out 2015 in 3548 and 1/3 innings pitched. He is also one of the Top 100 winning pitchers of all time.
Throughout his seventeen-year career, Matt Williams was an offensive threat in the line-up, and one of his teams' top power hitters. Playing in San Francisco, Cleveland, and Arizona, Williams' hit 378 home runs, and won a HR crown in 1994. A veteran of three World Series, this five-time All Star was a member of the 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks World Championship team.
This 35-inch model K55 Louisville Slugger weighs approximately 33 ounces and was manufactured by Hillerich & Bradsby during the 1991-1997 labeling period. This bat can be specifically dated to the 1991 season, Reuschel's only year with San Francisco during that period. Reuschel's nickname, "Big Daddy," appears on the barrel label of this bat, as does the Giants team name, indicating that it was ordered by, and shipped to, Reuschel.. Big Daddy's last game with the Giants came early in the season – April 22, 1991. The use on this bat is much greater than would be expected from a pitcher, especially one whose season ended less than a month into the season. The amount of use suggests that this bat was used by another player after Reuschel's departure. The number on the knob, 9, indicates that Matt Williams was that player -- K55 was a model favored by Williams, and he and Reuschel were known to share bats. It is logical to conclude that Matt Williams was the primary user of this bat, either subsequent to use by Reuschel, or from the time the bat was shipped.
This bat is uncracked and exhibits numerous ball marks, hit marks, and rack marks on the barrel. The handle has been prepared with pine tar, and remnants are present. The flame treated finish gives this bat a dramatic appearance, perfect for display. Overall, this is an outstanding bat, with use attributed to Matt Williams, one of the premier power hitters of his day.
