1967 Ed Charles (Roberto Rodriguez) Kansas City Athletics Road Vest

Ed Charles is best known for his tenure with the New York Mets, where he helped them win the 1969 World Series. Charles played in four of the five games in that World Series, in which the Mets defeated the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles. After losing the first game, the Mets won the next four; Charles scored the winning run in Game Two on Al Weis' eighth-inning single. Charles was on the field for the final out of the Series; Charles was captured in the famous photo as winning pitcher Jerry Koosman leaped into the arms of catcher Jerry Grote. After the Series, Charles, whose nickname, "The Glider," came from his third base play and graceful base running, announced his retirement. In his career he batted .263 with 86 home runs and 421 RBIs in 1005 games played.
This road gray Kansas City Athletics vest is all original with no alterations and shows heavy game use. This shirt was probably worn by both Ed Charles and Roberto Rodriguez. Charles wore #16 until May 10, 1967 when he was traded to the Yankees. Sometime later in 1967, Rodriguez also wore #16 while pitching 40 innings for the Athletics. This shirt has heavy brown staining on the back that encompasses the #1 on the back numeral, and is also missing 3 buttons. This shirt has all the characteristics of being authentic and game worn, and comes with letters from both MEARS and vintage equipment expert Darrell O'Mary. A classic all original flannel vest!
