On September 24, 1957, rookie Danny McDevitt, a native New Yorker, shut out the Pirates in the Dodgers' last game at Brooklyn's Ebbets Field. He also won 10 games for Los Angeles' 1959 NL champions. McDevitt appeared in eight games for the 1961 Yankees, and was traded to the Twins on June 14th for Billy Gardner. He later went on to play for the Athletics, where he ended his career.
This all original 1961 home New York Yankees flannel is simply outstanding. This shirt shows light, but even wear throughout, consistent with McDevitt's early departure in 1961. This shirt has the proper felt name tag in the collar with "McDevitt" chain stitched in. Shirt has proper Spalding tag in lower left tail along with size 42 tag attached. "61" is chain stitched bellowed Spalding tag indicating year of issue and use. The laundry tag and year flag tag are attached to underside of left front tail. The flag tag indicates "set 1 1961". There are a few small moth holes scattered about the shirt, but nothing that detracts from the overall appearance of this incredible flannel. A letter from vintage equipment expert Darrell O'Mary accompanies this historic jersey.View Lot Detail page
