Offered is this extremely rare blue home nylon durene Cowboys jersey from their first NFL season. The jersey features the highly desirable double star shoulders. The stars and unique shoulder numerals are of blue tackle twill sewn on white durene panels. Also features the coveted ten-inch crossover neck line. The jersey was worn by defensive back Don Bishop. Bishop played for the Cowboys from 1960 to 1965.
The #44 is sewn on front and back in cream white colored tackle twill. The white numbers have turned to cream color over time due to wear. This jersey is one of only five known to exist, surviving the test of time when the Cowboys cleaned out their warehouse in Richardson, Texas in 1987. Because these jerseys were worn in multiple pre-seasons after their use in the early 1960's, they show an abundance of wear. The jersey sports eleven team repairs but the brilliance of the royal blue durene still shines forth. Of note is the inner rope-stitch used to reinforce the front and back numerals, which was customary of jerseys of this era. This particular jersey was sourced from a college employee where the Cowboys trained.View Lot Detail page
