Takashi Saito is currently the team's closer, replacing fan favorite Eric Gagné. Saito previously pitched for the Yokohama BayStars in the Japanese Central League, compiling a record of 87-80 over 13 seasons. His success as a closer down the stretch in the 2006 season resulted in votes for both the National League Rookie of the Year and Cy Young Award. In 2007, Saito saved 39 games and made his first appearance on the National League All-Star team.
