Jim Leyritz Helmet Worn to Hit the Final Home Run of the 20th Century (ex-Halper)

This helmet was worn by Jim Leyritz in the final game of the 1999 World Series. Leyritz was wearing this batting helmet when he hit a home run in the bottom of the eighth inning in Game 4 at Yankee Stadium. That home run, which represented the final run in the Series, was the last Major League home run of the twentieth century. That significance has been noted by Leyritz himself, who inscribed the helmet in silver Sharpie on the front. Along the top front of the helmet he has printed the notation: "Helmet worn to hit the last HR of the century – 10/27/99 – W.S. Game 4." He has also signed the brim of the helmet "Jim Leyritz 13." There is slight smear to the word "worn" in the inscription, otherwise the signature is mint.

The helmet has the "NY" logo on the front and Leyritz's uniform number ('13") on both the front of the brim and the back. Leyritz's uniform number has also been written in black marker on the interior manufacturer's label. The size 7 3/8-inch helmet features a single left ear flap and displays both an ABC and Diamond Collection label on the interior. Moderate-to-heavy wear is displayed throughout in the form of surface abrasions and soiling along the exterior and tearing to the interior ear pad.
This important piece of memorabilia originated from the Barry Halper Collection and has an additional LOA from James Spence. It was consigned to the auction by Rob Steinmetz. View Lot Detail page
