Jim Thome circa 1990s Cooper Professional Model Game Used Bat

On September 6, 2007 Jim Thome became the 23rd member of the 500 Home Run Club, and the only one to hit a walk-off HR for number 500. During his 18-year career, Thome has set hitting records for each of the clubs he has played for – the Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Phillies, and the Chicago White Sox. In his career to date, Jim Thome has a .562 slugging percentage and a .409 on-base percentage. He is considered one of the most "complete" power hitters of his decade, due to his ability to create extra base hits, maintain a solid batting average for a power hitter (his career batting average is .281), and ability to get on base. He has the fourth-lowest career AB/HR (at bats per home run) average in major-league history. His 13.68 (about 1 HR every 14 times he comes to bat) is eclipsed only by Mark McGwire (10.61), Babe Ruth (11.76), and Barry Bonds (12.90). Stretching behind Thome, all with averages greater than 14, are such Hall-of-Famers as Kiner, Killebrew, Williams, Mantle, Foxx, and Schmidt, in that order. Currently with the White Sox, Thome continued his power-hitting ways on Opening Day, 2008 by blasting two home runs, lifting his career total to 509 and counting. His future election into the National Baseball Hall of Fame is secure.

This bat was manufactured by Cooper and bears Jim Thome's name stamped on the barrel. The bat has Cooper professional labeling consistent with the Thome's first five seasons with the Cleveland Indians, 1991-96. The Model Number RD-45 appears on the barrel of this bat. The bat has a two-tone finish, with a natural finished handle and a black finish on the barrel. It measures 34 inches in length and currently weighs approximately 32.5 ounces. The number 25 is evident on the knob of this bat written in black marker. Thome has worn uniform number 25 since his rookie season in 1991. Thome has also written the model number of the bat on the knob as well. Manufacturer's stampings indicating the length (34") and weight (32 oz.) of this bat are also stamped into the knob. This bat is uncracked and exhibits numerous game use characteristics, including Thome's characteristic application of tape at the knob and extending 2.5 inches down the handle. Light pine tar residue is present on the handle. Hit marks and ball marks are evident on the barrel, as well as a rack mark and cleat mark.

This is an opportunity to obtain an outstanding bat from early in the career of 500 Home Run Club member and future hall of Famer Jim Thome. This bat is unequaled on display, with significant game use characteristics.View Lot Detail page
