Doug Camilli enjoyed a nine-year Major league career with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Washington Senators. The son of Dolph Camilli, the 1941 NL Home Run and RBI Champion, Doug was a light hitting catcher who finished his career with a career batting average of .199. (Does it get any worse than that? Check out Dale Murphy's career Home Run total.) BUT, importantly, Camilli was a member of the 1963 World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers, who swept the Yankees in the 1963 World Series (it doesn't get any better than that!) For 1963 Dodger World Championship Team collectors, Camilli is one of the toughest bats out there to find. And here one is!!!
Additionally, this bat has been signed by 19 members of the 1969 Washington Senators. These signatures were obtained on November 8, 1998 at a Senators' team reunion in Virginia by former Senators bat boy Greg Taylor, who also signed and dated the bat. These autographs are all signed in black Sharpie, and are clear and unblemished.
The signatures on this bat of the former Senators include the following players and coaches:
Bernie Allen, Hank Allen, Rich Billings, Ed Brinkman, Joe Camacho, Casey Cox, Tim Cullen, Mike Epstein, Jim French, Denny Higgins, Sid Hudson, Bob Humphreys, Darrell Knowles, Frank Kreutzer, Ken McMullen, Ed Stroud, Wayne Terwilliger, Fred Valentine, and Dick Bosman.
This bat was manufactured by the Hillerich & Bradsby Company. It is a signature model with Doug Camilli's name stamped in script on the barrel as he had an endorsement contract with the company at the time of manufacture. This bat has what is commonly referred to as 1965-68 era labeling, however is specific to 1965 based on the one year uniform number 29 present on the knob and worn by Camilli in 1965 only. The Model Number S2 is stamped into the knob of this bat. The bat has a natural, or regular, finish. It measures 34.5 inches in length and currently weighs approximately 33 ounces. This bat has a non-displaced crack on the back of the barrel that occurs along the grain of the wood. The number 29 is evident on the knob of this bat, written in vintage red marker. The number 33 is also written on the knob in pencil, denoting the bat's weight. Ball marks are present on this bat, primarily above the label.
Whether you collect the 1963 World Champion Los Angeles Dodgers, or the "Beltway Boys" expansion Washington Senators of the 1960's, this is a must-have bat.View Lot Detail page
