Even as a young child playing T-ball, Nomar Garciaparra was known as "No Nonsense Nomar," for taking the game so seriously. His high school team won the league championship in both his junior and senior years, and Garciaparra was named MVP in his final season. At Georgia Tech, his team won the school's first College World Series, and he was named to the 1992 U.S. Olympic baseball team. Debuting with the Boston Red Sox in 1996, Garciaparra was unanimously voted American League Rookie of the Year in 1997. He led the league in batting in 1999 and 2000, hitting .357 and .372, respectively. On July 23, 2003 -- his birthday -- Garciaparra became the first player in Major League history to hit three home runs in three at-bats in three consecutive innings. In 2004 Garciaparra was traded to the Chicago Cubs in a blockbuster deal, and in 2005 he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers. A six-time All Star, Garciaparra is a solid post-season performer, having hit .314 in 29 post-season games. His current 12-year career totals of .315 BA with 218 HRs and 892 RBIs make him one of the best hitting shortstops in baseball history.
