Mike Epstein 1967-68 Hillerich & Bradsby Professional Model Game Used Bat

A member of the 1972 World Champion Oakland A's, led by Reggie Jackson and Sal Bando, game used Mike Epstein bats are rarely seen or offered, making them one of the toughest starting player bats from that team to acquire. The power-hitting Epstein began his career with the Baltimore Orioles after being named the Sporting News Minor League Player of the Year in 1966. With Boog Powell holding down first base for the O's, Epstein was traded to the Washington Senators in 1967 where he hit 30 home runs in 1969 and teamed with Frank Howard to provide power to the Washington line-up. Although he never lived up to his hype as "the next Hank Greenberg", Epstein's success with the Senators and A's highlighted his nine-year career.

This bat was manufactured by the Hillerich & Bradsby Company. It is a signature model with Mike Epstein's name stamped in script on the barrel as he had an endorsement contract with the company at the time of manufacture. This bat has what is commonly referred to as 1965-68 era labeling. Epstein's uniform number 12 is evidenced on both the knob and the barrel end of the bat, making the bat specific to his first two seasons with the Washington Senators, 1967 (rookie year) and 1968.The Model Number O16 is stamped into the knob of this bat. The bat has a natural, or regular, finish. It measures 35 inches in length and currently weighs approximately 34 ounces. The weight of 34 ounces is written on the knob in pencil, as requested by Epstein. This bat has a non-displaced "H pattern" crack in the handle approximately 13 inches from the knob. This bat exhibits a significant number of game characteristics, including a cracked handle, hit marks, rack marks, and slight grain swelling.View Lot Detail page
