Ron Cey 1983-85 Louisville Slugger Professional Model Game Used Bat

Ron Cey played for the Los Angeles Dodgers (1971-82), Chicago Cubs (1983-86) and Oakland Athletics (1987). A popular player, he was nicknamed "The Penguin" for his slow waddling running gait by his then-minor league manager Tommy Lasorda. With the Dodgers, third baseman Cey was part of an All-Star infield that included Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes, and Bill Russell . The four became the longest-running infield in baseball history, and led the Dodgers to four NL pennants between 1974 and 1981. In a 17-season career, Cey was a .261 hitter with 316 home runs and 1139 RBI in 2073 games. A six-time All Star, Cey's forte was power, and his career home run total placed him fifth among third basemen at the time of his retirement. Cey had a terrific 1981 World Series in which he helped spark the Dodgers to four straight victories and a World Championship after they had lost the first two games, including his returning for the clinching Game 6 after having been being hit in the head by a Goose Gossage fastball during Game 5. Cey was named Co-MVP along with Steve Yeager and Pedro Guerrero.

This bat was manufactured by the Hillerich & Bradsby Company. It is a signature model with Ron Cey's name stamped in script on the barrel as he had an endorsement contract with the company at the time of manufacture. This bat has what is commonly referred to as 1983-85 era labeling. The Model Number C300 is stamped into barrel of this bat. The bat has a Flame Treated finish. It measures 34 inches in length and currently weighs approximately 30.5 ounces. The number 11 is evident on the knob of this bat, written in vintage marker. Cey wore uniform number 11 during this period with the Chicago Cubs. This bat also exhibits light–to-moderate game use characteristics, including a cracked handle (slightly along the grain – virtually invisible) , scored handle, light pine tar residue, hit marks and ball marks mainly above the label, and rack marks.

This is an opportunity to obtain a bat used by former Major Leaguer Ron Cey from his playing days with the Chicago Cubs during a three-year period when he hit 71 home runs with 150 RBIs. His game used bats are also essential for collectors of the 1981 Los Angeles Dodgers World Championship Team. It was consigned to the auction by Christopher Cavalier.View Lot Detail page
