Re: UPDATE - Black Light Photo Matching - New Find
Great thread. I am trying identify the number changes on two shirts that I have. I have a small handheld black light and have held it under the shirts, in the dark, but have not been able to tell what the old numbers were. Is there a trick to this that I am missing? Both shirts are star players so it is very interesting that either shirts have number changes. I have photo matched and video matched both shirts so they were both worn by the player whose Shirt it is. It would be very interesting to see who wore the shirts prior. I find it fascinating that teams still recycle their jerseys even with star players. One shirt is from 1994 and the other from 1997.
Thanks for your help
Paul
One shirt is being autographed at the Hall of Fame weekend so once it is back I will post images of both.

One question, is it only good on dark jerseys? Have you ever tried it with a white jersey?Leave a comment:

Re: UPDATE - Black Light Photo Matching - New Find
I wanted to revisit this thread to show another great example of why this Black Light process has become a crucial part in my photo matching techniques.
As you can see in the photos I provided, the jersey under normal light does show wear. Good evidence on both the left and right shoulders....
....and you can also see in the photos below that photo that the jersey demonstrates a remarkable amount of hidden wear that is not seen in the normal light, which is only evident under the black light. Wear that was most likely laundered out, but only to the naked eye.
I would highly recommend trying this on some of your own jerseys that you are having trouble finding a good match for. Baseball jersey, QB's, punters & kickers.....these would be great examples of jersey that may hide wear after laundering. You never know what lies beneath....Leave a comment:

for the assist in ID'ing this one:
2005 Brian Urlacher alternate jersey
Game worn November 13th against the 49ers.
Big thanks to Matthew at TriplexXxSports for walking me through the UV light process and for the incredible photo montage.
This jersey has been laundered so the UV process was a necessity in order to help identify it.
The numbers look white to the naked eye but when you hit them with the UV light the hidden remnants of laundered
4-year old stains are revealed.
The UV light also amplifies the appearance of the dings in the mesh body.
Also note the differing distances from the seam on each shoulder that the
Reebok logo was sewn and the way that they match this jersey.
Left shoulder logo placement (right at the seam)
Right shoulder logo placement (further below the seam)

Hi,
Very cool! If you don't mind me asking, how did you put together the black light set up?
Thanks,

Re: UPDATE - Black Light Photo Matching - New Find
You are 100% correct. The 2001 style NFL shields were replaced with the newer 'equipment' shield that they used in 2002 & up.Leave a comment:
