Chase Field has no such prohibitions - didn't even back before they sold game-used bats inside. I recall that early in '02, after they'd implemented some pretty strict (and in some cases really stupid) new security regulations, I wanted to take one of Jim Traber's old bats into the park to get him to sign it (he was broadcasting for the team, then), and I went so far as to call the Event Coordiinator for permission, to make sure that there would be no problems, and he even gave me his cell phone number to use if the guys at the gate tried to stop me.

I had the bat in a mailing tube, which they never even glanced at, or asked me about. They were pawing through purses, kids' backpacks, doing everything but patting folks down - and here I walk in with something that might have been a rifle, for all they knew.

Some of those guys are no doubt working for TSA now.
I have seen the Braves security escort a fan who caught a bat in the stands out to his car to put the bat away. If you win one of the autographed bats they auction at every game they hold it until the end of the game. I also went to a game last year that they gave away "full size bats". None of it makes sense

you cant take the bat into the ball park in arlington. Not sure if you live close. A lot of time you can get hamilton before the game when he drives in to the players parking lot under the stadium.

So I guess my next question is if there is a dealer for Rangers memorabilia that also does signings that utilize MLB authentication for private signings.

I had a John Smoltz jersey that was done the same way with the autograph added to the current hologram later, and I currently have a Jackie Robinson Day Mike Gonzalez jersey that was done the same way.

    Interesting.

It seems that the bat piece was authenticated in 2008 and then latter on presented at a signing and instead of giving another hologram, they added information to the database for the same hologram.

So I guess there is certain protocal that occurs when a item is presented for more than one session. Thanks for bringing this up.

I am interpreting that your concern is autographing an MLB Authenticated bat... rather than autographing game used bats in general.

I would not worry about the MLB Authentication in making the decision. The bat is still authenticated regardless of the signature being added later.

I would recommend though if you ever sell the bat that you consider explaining the MLB Authentication does not cover the autograph. In the interest of full and fair disclosure to potential buyers.

Kind of opposite but illustrates the point, I have seen people sell bats as PSA authenticated, when PSA only verified the autograph not the game use. Its just bad practice to omit those key facts which causes buyers to be misled.
