I want to apologize to the members who disagreed with me before and I was sarcastic with. You have every right to say I'm wrong and to disagree with me. While I still think having 3 jerseys yanked out from under me in 3 weeks was worth griping about, you don't have to agree. There is always tomorrow right? It was just some used clothing. I try not to let my emotions dictate my posts and this time they did. Know I hold no ill will or malice and thank you for your contributions.

That being said, I am sure my change in heart has much more to do with the fact my deal with the AHL club has been restored rather than a new found calmness. I have now paid for the jersey in question as the Equipment Manager somehow convinced the hire ups to honor the deal not just for a jersey but the one he scored his only points in!

Thanks for those of you who agreed it sucked and thanks for those of you who thought I was wrong.

Meigray and Jo and the like can't come close because they have higher acquistion costs. They have to buy the stuff from the teams and factor in their costs such as employee salaries, storage, advertising, etc. and make a profit. The problem with what the teams do is often they get greedy and the lack the precision of a JO or an Meigray as to when or where the item was used. Some teams are very good with issues like these, others are not.

Agreed! Lack precision is a good way of putting it. They charge very high prices without any knowledgeable person handling the item. For example, someone from Tiger Authentics (I wont mention names), but I had purchased an Austin Jackson bat from them, when I met the person to pick it up, the guy is swinging the bat, touching the head of it on the ground etc....

I understand its a bat, and it was used.... but I paid $200 for this thing! At least respect the item.

I agree, I would rather buy direct from the team, team store, or mlb authenticated. Hockeytown authentics is sometimes overpriced, but everything I have purchased from them is far below MeiGray prices. Just to name a few...Rafalski gu skates $200, Rafalski gu jersey $400?, Datsyuk gu stick $125 or 150, Bertuzzi goal scored puck $45, Draper gu gloves $125. Call me crazy, but I have never seen sites like MeiGray or JO come close to offering items at prices like that

I have come to this conclusion,

I would rather have things the way they are now, then the way they were when I was in high school in college and etc... still loved trying to obtain game used bats. Today, we have teams directly supplying their items, all though there is a mark up, at least you know there really isnt a better source. My problem is if they are going to do this, then set up a database for your items, or photomatch them for the customer... make the items unique in their own aspect if you are going to charge outrageous prices.

Hockeytown Authentics sells gamers in store and will charge around 4 to 5k for a Yzerman jersey, I kid you not, they are still in the store. Who in their right mind is going to spend that type of cash with little to know evidence of use, thats unsigned, and no ability to trace the jersey!?!?!? Maybe Steve Yzerman when he comes back from Tampa Bay.... not your average collector.

I am actually thankful for MLB authenticated items. With the help of MLBtv and getty images, as well as, the dates provided... the ability to possibility photomatch and item and verify its authenticity is ten fold what it would have been ten years ago. Also you gotta love the bat manufacturers today, its almost like they saw that this was coming so they decided to stamp their manufacture dates into the items (hence Marucci, Louisville, and almost any brand supplying players with items).

I guess my rant was getting to this.... I like the idea that teams take notice to the desirability and want for authenticated items. So stick to it and make it better.... when you let people in or give people the opportunity to pick through items before being made to the general public, it kind of negates that purpose because your treating people preferentially who are going to mark the item up anyway. Either give your employees first dibs, or cut it off completely until the public gets a chance... make it fair.

Gingi, Think of the bright side. At least they didn't take you money and put together a non worn jersey for you. Keep in touch with them and maybe they can "make it up" to you on another jersey or something else.

I still prefer to think of all of this as a hobby. If you are looking at it strictly as business, then expect these things to happen. In business there is no courtesy, care, or anything else. Also along those lines...the teams are in the same business and alot bigger.

Yeah okay, whatever. We've all lost out on items we've wanted due to certain scum bags in the hobby. It's just like any other hobby...art collecting, toy collecting, whatever....there's always somebody who won't mind screwing someone else over.

Not that this necessarily helps, but remember that some organizations rarely if ever let their GU items out into the public unless the players or staff that acquire them sell them.

The Colorado Rockies - although they do sell GU Jerseys, Bats, Hats and Batting Helmets through their Dug Out Stores - still sell large lots to long time bulk buyers well before they announce what is available at the stores so most of the big names are in the secondary market at increased prices before the collector's get a chance at them.

Rumor I have heard too is that starting this year, during ST, the Rockies are going to charge Minor Leaguers $100 for every bat they give to fans - regardless of whether the bats are broken or not and regardless of the age of the fan. If that's true, it means more bats for sale in the 'Team Store' that they and the D'Backs will have at Talking Stick.

It sucks when the thrill of the chase turns into the pain of the missed item, we've all been there, but if we all got every piece we wanted all the time we would be done collecting by now. Sock that money away for now and wait, something cool will turn up to spend it on.

It is crappy that you agreed on the jersey price and they said yes, only to welch on it. If you had a written agreement, take them to court and make them honor it. Not that that's what anybody wants it to come down to, but a deal is a deal when it is in writing.

This is not a hobby, it's a business. I fail to understand how teams can hold their fans hostage with pricing. Sure, the Packers wore those throwbacks and they sold for stupid money. Just add it to the multitude of reasons why teams exploit their fan base for every last dollar.

Everyone seems to run around complaining that the old timers got out of this hobby but many of them left because of exploitation like this. Pricing on these jerseys is coming to a point where even long time fans are priced out.

A quick update, one of the Canucks partners is keeping the entire set of Throwbacks. I wasn't pre-empted by a fellow collector, they just weren't made available to the public. The fact the advertise them for sale on the website was somewhat misleading, as if I needed more reason to love and miss MeiGray. That being said, I have had some honest and quick responses from their game worn jersey department now. It's too bad pricing is more than 50% higher than comparable jerseys from last season. As Eagle said, teams seem to think they are losing money so they are attempting to exploit their fans.

For those of you who get access to your favorite players and teams, enjoy it while you can. 2 different teams have decided to keep jerseys now that were once available to me and so my attempts to own every style my favorite player has been thwarted by greed. I don't think I pay player salaries or that a team owes me anything but when this kind of thing happens, only real fans miss out. Why do I root for these teams again?

This is the future of this hobby. More and more teams are cutting out the middlemen and selling their stuff themselves on their websites or league auction sites and merchandise stores. JO and Meigray and the like are great but in the end they are still just middlemen and the teams leave alot of money on the table by selling stuff through them rather than using their own existing employees, websites and stores to do so. There is only so much a fan will pay for a jersey especially of average players and middleman will only pay so much for the items from teams because they have to turn a profit on this stuff. The items are items that the teams do not pay much for compared with what they can sell them for so not selling them in bulk to a middleman and holding on to them for a bit until they sell is not really costing them much. Look at the success the packers had this year selling even common player jerseys for big money. Additionally, alot of players are starting to sell their own stuff ala Hines Ward and Wes Welker directly to the public. If you noticed this year Meigray had very few teams in their NHL Program.
