I was just researching this topic because I recently got my hands on one from the 1990 game.

I would be very interested if someone could help me with a photomatch on the Griffey Jersey, I would even give someone $50 if they could get me a good image. I know the exact date the game was played (Feb 5, 1994) in Palm Springs, and I know that NBC aired the game on Feb 19th 1994. I had someone purchase the jersey recently but just relisted it as they had a change of mind on making the payment for it, so I am still interested in selling if anyone here thinks it's something they might like.

That charity softball game started in the mid to late 1980's (I have a couple of their game programs; first corporate sponsor was Pizza Hut). Here is a picture of Cal Ripken Jr. & Wade Boggs from the 1988 game I believe:

The COA is legit and like he said from the company JR used for his GU stuff in the Mariners era.

    Hi Guys,

The Griffey uniform being discussed is mine. And you are right, it is not from the All Star Game they play in July.

Here is a link to the article about the game he played in:

They used to play it every year right before spring training starts, it used to be held in Palm Springs (The stadium where the Palm Springs Power plays now I believe, it was the old Angels stadium I think). It's not the All Star game they play in the Summer but it was an annual charity softball game that all of the big name guys played it. The red striped pants are what the American League team wore that year in the game. A photomatch will be tough, but not impossible I haven't tried all that hard. The game was televised on NBC so I am sure a screenshot could be had from someone. The COA that Jr. signed was from the company he sold his game used stuff from when he was still here in Seattle.

It's a cool signed uniform if you're looking for a unique Griffey item.

I was not comfortable not knowing 100% when and where if at all it was worn.

In all my leg work the only plausible game it could have been worn in was a celeb softball game. That really does not fit my collecting genre.

I don't understand this comment. Griffey worked with Mill Creek and Coast to Coast when he was with Seattle. This COA helps determine an era for this item and people feel the signature looks good.

A COA doesn't have to have matching holograms to make it useful. People use garbage holograms with COA's all the time.

This item may be hard for anyone to identify, but the COA helps a lot since everyone who knows anything about Griffey, Jr. from his Mariners days know that Mill Creek and Coast to Coast were close with The Kid. They list an event on the COA, and unless anyone can prove the COA is fake, I'd use the COA for reference for where this came from as it must have been a special NBA television promotional game, maybe softball?

I would like to think if anyone was going to discourage the COA with this item they would have proof to back it up and not just make blanket statements that do not help the cause.

Actually if you decide to take the original COA from a legitmate item (as above) and match it up with a fake item in order to sell the fake as real, haven't you just greatly devalued the real item, since it it no longer has the original COA? I can't really see someone doing that....Now photocpying an original and chaning it or manipulating it that i can see.....

My Ken Griffey Jr. '94 All Star Game helmet comes with the same signed LOA from the same company. I also have an original advertisement from when they were selling Griffey's equipment. It doesn't have this jersey on the advertisement, but Griffey sure did sell off some pretty cool stuff back in the day.
