I was being funny... I make no assertions on either person's credibility... Actually, I was insinuating against Jim's credibility (giving the bad ball to his wife) and his wife's innocently passing off bad items unknowingly.

How can these baseballs not pulled from auction until there is some clarification. There are two items claiming to be the same very event specific baseball auctioned off at the same time. Doesn't it make both auction houses look silly?

If anything maybe both balls should be in the wifes hands.

The Heritage ball is way too scuffed up and dirty. And look at the wear on the edges of the panels where the laces are.

Would like to see how long the ball was in play before the hr. But I would bet not nearly long enough for it to show that much wear.

As far as his wife's credibility, what makes you think Jim wouldn't do the same? Then again, that is the problem with all non-authenticated baseballs.

Reading this description... I am concerned about the Heritage ball...

This is the ball that Leyritz hit for the last homer of the 20th century. Just think how many home runs were hit in between Monte Cross' and Jim Leyritz's home runs! The ball comes directly from Leyritz's ex-wife.

Personally, I'd be really curious to know if Leyritz gave the real ball to his ex-wife... Or if he kept the real ball and gave her some "other" less important ball. Especially if it was part of the court mandated "splitting of assets".

Coming from the ex-missus, I call that another strike against the Heritage ball.

Regarding the bad signature, I think it looks bad because the ink didn't flow well on the first signing and then he tried to overlap it perfectly the second time and that never looks smooth. I've had that happen on a ball I was getting signed and it absolutely ruins it.

A major problem with the Legendary description is that this would not be the last home run of the 20th century. The last HR of the 20th century would be the last home run hit in the 2000 World Series.

Regardless of which one is the real one, the value of the "real one" has
been diminished because of the other. Sounds similar to that infamous

If you ask me based on looks alone I would say the bottom ball looks rubbed up with mud and is game used, I don't think the top link looks like a rubbed up game ready ball IMO.

Haaa...

Based solely on a gut call, I'd lean towards Legendary... primarily because they have two Leyritz bats associated with World Series, including the bat with a matching inscription to the ball.

Both Legendary items have player LOA... Heritage makes no mention of a player LOA.
