I believe it is a 100% match. i laid the bat over an image and with photoshop see that all marks line up perfect. I put the image side by side so you see a linear comparison

There's no doubt in my mind that is a 100% match. A good photoshoper can line it all up at the same angle, but those marks are spot on. Look at the smudge on the T in TPX plus the 2 marks below it. No question. Nice job!

He went through alot of these blonde bats I noticed, in one game he pretty much broke one each at bat. But I noticed on getty, it looks later in the season he ordered bats with VM on the knob.

He's using a very similar bat on 4/24 (but it isn't the same one).

Personally, I think you have a match... but can see why you're concerned.

What date is that game from? Did you check Getty around it?

    Re: Know altered???

Sorry to bring this up again, just wondering if others want to chime in whether it looks like a match. I'm very picky and just want to make sure. But what are the odds of a bat having the same ball mark in the same spot in the same season like this bat and the bat photo.

I tried to find a picture with the rack mark but cant, his next at-bat after this photo was a 1 pitch atbat and never showed a close up of the back of the barrel. After that he started to use a new bat.

Thank you all very much for your opinions.

Well, looks like it was just some odd kind of wear. Awesome match, and a great pickup at a spectacular price.

    Re: Know altered???

I was going to post on the pickup thread, but didn't have time. I stay away from sanded knobs because I can only think of one reason for the sanding: to remove a number and put another one on.

However, there appears to be no way this was the case with this bat. To sand away a number in marker, there would be marks on the stamping. Plus, it wouldn't show in a square shape.

FWIW, I'd be totally comfortable with this bat.

    Re: Knob altered???

Man we really need the edit feature back and I need to read my posts over again. But title should be knob not know.

Thanks for the opinions so far.

It could have been done by the player turning the bat while removing a weigh.

The rangers put big bar coded price tags on the bats that are in the merchandise store, maybe it was a sticker and it took off dirt, wear etc

    Know altered???

So I posted this in the pick up thread about the weird square on the knob. A member thinks it may have been sanded and another thinks it looks fine. I bought the bat from a auction that really does not have a super great reputation but does have several legit items( pristine auctions). What do other members think? Altered knob or just random event forming from wear? Thanks
