Joe Crede has established himself as one of the best fielding third basemen in Major League Baseball. Though he has not won a Gold Glove award, he is generally considered an excellent fielder, and he has a .964 fielding percentage, high for a third baseman. Crede was a member of the White Sox when they won the World Series in 2005, their first championship in 88 years. The highlight of his postseason came in game two of the American League Championship Series when he hit a game-winning RBI double in the bottom of the ninth inning. He added a .294 BA and two home runs during the World series as the Sox beat the Astros. A power-hitting third baseman who hit 30 home runs in 2006, Crede was sidelined with injuries for most of the 2007 season. In 2008 Crede was selected to the American League All Star Team.
This 34-inch maple Louisville Slugger model C243 was manufactured by Hillerich & Bradsby during the 2004-2006 period. Weighing approximately 34 ounces, this bat is absolutely hammered with use. Ball marks and embedded hit marks are seen in a concentrated area above the label, and cleat marks are found near the end of this bat. Pine tar coats the handle approximately 3 inches from the knob and extending well into the center label, and has splattered onto the barrel. This bat has sustained a slight crack on the handle that is non-displaced and all but invisible through the heavy tar application. Crede's uniform number, 24, appears on the knob in black marker, along with a small number 4, indicating the weight of this bat.
This bat exhibits some of the heaviest game use seen on a professional bat, and provides an excellent opportunity to obtain a quality bat used by this up-and-coming young power hitter during a period when he pounded 73 home runs for the Sox, and earned a World Championship ring.
