In 1958, the Corpus Christi School in Piedmont, California held the school's annual "Dads and Sons Night." During the event a raffle was held, with the grand prize being a game used Mickey Mantle baseball bat autographed by Mickey himself. The prize had been obtained by one of the dads who had connections with the New York Yankees (Major League Baseball had just come to the west coast) and was able to get the bat donated specifically for the raffle. The lucky grand prize winner that night was a 6th grader at the school who has maintained the bat in his personal possession for over fifty years, since he won it in 1958.
This bat is new to the sports memorabilia collecting hobby --- it has never been offered before!
This outstanding bat was manufactured by Adirondack, and bears labeling consistent with Adirondack professional labeling seen between 1958 and 1960. This bat can be specifically dated to 1958, as noted above. The bat is a model 113A, measuring 35.5 inches in length and approximately 32 ounces in weight. This Adirondack model is known to have been favored by Mantle during the mid-1950s, and the dimensions are consistent with known exemplars of Mantle game used bats of the period and Mantle's personal documented ordering records of another bat manufacturer -- Hillerich & Bradsby.
Of significance is the outstanding amount of professional game use present on this uncracked bat. Many ball marks and ball seam impressions are visible on the right and back barrel. Cleat marks are present on the left and back barrel as well as several red and black scuff marks.
In addition, this bat has been signed by Mickey Mantle in vintage pen. The autograph reads "Best Wishes, Mickey Mantle." The signature is clear and unhurried, and is easily visible on this flame-burned finish blonde bat.
This bat is accompanied by a notarized statement and Letter of Authenticity from the original 1958 raffle winner. This bat has also been authenticated by PSA/DNA for the authenticity of both the bat (graded GU 8) and the signature. Both PSA/DNA Letters of Authenticity accompany this bat as well.
This incredible bat is a significant piece of memorabilia from one of the greatest baseball players in history. Mickey Mantle was selected to the All Star Team 20 times, was named the American League's Most Valuable Player three times, won four A.L. Home Run championships, and won the Triple Crown in 1956. He is a member of the 500 Home Run Club and was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. In 1958 specifically, the year in which he used this bat, Mickey was an offensive powerhouse for the New York Yankees, hitting .304 with 42 Home runs, 97 RBIs, and 18 Stolen Bases.
This is a unique opportunity to obtain a professional model bat used by Mickey Mantle in 1958 and signed by him at the time of use -- a single-signed vintage autograph. Add the fact that this bat, while displaying moderate-to-heavy use, remains uncracked and presents an outstanding display presence. And, better yet, this bat has never been offered to the hobby before. All-in-all, it would be difficult to find a better Mickey Mantle game used bat for your collection than this one.View Lot Detail page
