James J. Jefferies fought Jack Johnson in 1910. To get a shot at Jefferies' title, Johnson fought Tommy Burnes in 1908. I'd say that one of these three boxers was the highest paid athelete during that time.

There was an article in the Indianapolis Star about a certain athlete who was born in Indy. In his time he was involved in a Sport that was the highest paying job for professional athletes. This was a 100 years ago.

Anybody know what the sport was????
