Anyone Collect Leather Football Helmets? Hunt Has Some Gems...
i own around a dozen or so vintage leather football helmets and was wondering if anyone else here collects these fantastic items. while i don't chase them down with the same gusto i put into other types of vintage football helmets, i always take a close look when they surface and will pull the trigger when i come across one i like.
i've found that hunt always seems to have an excellent selection whenever they open an auction and their current auction is no exception. in particular hunt has two spectacular leather helmet listed - a spaulding and a reach. for whatever reason it doesn't seem that too many auction houses spend much time on leather football helmets - in fact, next to hunt, i think mears is the only other source that prominently features these great collectibles (and to some extent another memorabilia website that escapes me at the moment).
anyway, these items make tremendous show pieces and reek of vintage sports - if any of you football fans are thinking of branching out, i can't imagine a better addition to a football memorabilia collection than a quality vintage leather football helmet....
