In 1973, Dave Winfield started his HOF career with the San Diego Padres and wore #31.
I am offering for sale, one of the first Louisville Slugger Dave Winfield signature model bats he ever used - if not the very first bat he used in the big leagues. The offered bat is a 1973 - C235 Dave Winfield Signature Model Game Used Bat. The bat's labeling period is 1973 - 1975, but Winfield ordered only C235 model bats ONCE during the 73-75 labeling period - HIS VERY FIRST ORDER through Louisivlle Slugger on August 10, 1973. He ordered six ( 6 ) Flame Burned 35" and 35 ounce C235 model bats. This bat is from that order and is the earliest Winfield signature model bat you will ever find. Let me be clear - The August 10, 1973 entry where this bat originated is the VERY FIRST entry on Winfield's factory record.
The bat has a repaired upper handle crack and shows great use, with perfect Winnie tape on the handle and nice tar markings. The butt of the bat has a faded #31 on it. The bat is 35" long and weighs 34.8 ounces. Other than the crack which has been repaired nicely, the bat has no flaws and shows great use on the barrel. YOU WILL NEVER FIND AN EARLIER WINFIELD BAT IN THE MARKET - PRICE - $1,220 including shipping. Please e-mail me at jcaravello@nc.rr.com if interested. Thanks for looking. Jim
